Is an Older Car Always Cheaper to Insure?

No. Older cars are often worth less, but car value is just one element of insurance pricing.

HomeInsurance and the car
No. Older cars are often worth less, but car value is just one element of insurance pricing.

Why newer can sometimes compete

A newer vehicle may have better crash avoidance, security or repair support. An older model may have a claims history that makes it unattractive to a particular insurer.

Why very old is not automatically cheap

Parts availability, modified examples, security and the types of drivers attracted to a model can all affect risk. Some apparently modest older cars can therefore produce surprisingly high quotations.

Compare the actual choices

If you are choosing between, say, a £4,000 older car and a £7,000 newer one, check each insurance price. Assumptions about age and value are less useful than prices based on your own circumstances.

When age is the main difference between two cars, compare real quotations instead of assuming the older one will cost less to cover.
