Not automatically. Spending every available pound on the purchase can leave too little for insurance, servicing, tyres and the first unexpected repair.
Keep a money left over after buying the car
A used car can need a battery, tyre, service or brake work soon after purchase even if it was honestly sold. A cash reserve prevents an ordinary maintenance bill becoming a crisis.
Newer can still be better value
A newer car may give you better safety equipment, lower repair uncertainty or remaining manufacturer cover. The point is to compare total value, not to buy old for the sake of it.
Make sure you can afford the car, not just the monthly payment
The monthly payment is only one monthly cost. Add insurance, fuel, parking and a maintenance allowance before deciding what you can comfortably spend.
Leave room in the budget for the first repair, insurance and routine maintenance instead of spending every available pound on the purchase itself.
